Want to try something new for a long time, but don’t know where to start? Life is too short to waste your time thinking about things you can do, and you can try them right away! Come up with a few options and do a little research to help you finally make your dreams come true!
Make a list of all the things you would like to try. Have you always wanted to learn to ride a mountain bike or cook some Italian food? Maybe you want to test your skills in a game of poker or you want to master a foreign language. Write down everything you care about, no matter what your desires are.
Realize that brainstorming is not about evaluating individual ideas and having to think a certain way. Brainstorming is a purely creative matter.
For now, do not evaluate the practicality of the new activities. Just have fun while compiling the list!
Ask a friend for a few suggestions. If you can’t think of anything, ask a friend for help. Think of someone who likes to try new things. There is nothing wrong with sharing ideas.
Invite a group of friends and ask them for some good tips on activities they have tried themselves. You will probably get the necessary inspiration!
You can also post a request for help on Facebook, where some friends will be happy to advise you.
Look for potential ideas on the web. Pinterest websites, for example, are an excellent source of ideas. Simply enter the password “try something new ” and wait for the internet to offer you.
On Pinterest you will find, for example, suggestions for joint trips, lots of different ideas for new hairstyles, etc.
Be careful when conducting an online survey, as some sites require you to set up an account and provide certain personal information first. However, you can find a lot of ideas on the Internet for free, so if you don’t want to, don’t sign up anywhere.
For more inspiration, you can also watch TED Talk with Matt Cutts on Try Something New for 30 Days. The video is very short (only three and a half minutes), but extremely motivating.
Survey of the selected activity
Find out what you need. Now that you have a list of all the potential activities, it’s time to determine what you will need to make your dream come true!
Take the time to explore the equipment you will need to purchase, the training you will need to do, etc.
Also consider the financial side of the activities. If there is a financial problem, do not give up. Try to find a handle. An example is the desire for a cooking lesson in Paris, but the lack of money for a ticket. In this case, you can look for French cuisine courses in your area.
Remember, you can and should try more than one new thing – start exploring all your ideas!
Prepare for a simulation or test. For example, if you want a new hair color, just start with a temporary color. You will find out if you really like the given shade and at the same time you will not have to keep it permanently.
The simulation can also be very helpful, especially if your new activity is very expensive. Simulating an activity, such as piloting an aircraft, can help determine if it is really such an interesting activity for you before you invest money in real flight training.
Of course, this will not be possible with all activities. If you can’t try the thing in advance, don’t do anything about it. It’s part of the fun!
Ask someone who has already tried it. But if you still want to know more, talk to someone who has tried the activity or who has been to your dream place.
If you don’t know anyone who would, try setting up an online forum. Forums are sites where you can post your question or post and read other people’s reactions, usually with similar interests, in an organized user environment.
Realization of your plan
Take your time. You have already completed the training, so you have no time to make enough time for a new activity or idea.
Fear of error can result in procrastination. New things may seem scary, but don’t put them off. You can do it!
Choose a date in the calendar and promise that you will implement your idea on that day. It will be even better if you entrust your intention to friends and family. If other people know about it, they will make you endure it!
Ask a friend to join you. Is there a better way to try something new than with a friend? Not only is it a great way to create shared memories, but you will feel much more relaxed if you feel any concerns now.
The person who completes everything with you can be your partner, close person, best friend or mother. Think about who you would enjoy the activity with the most!
Bring all the necessary aids or equipment with you. You have put a lot of effort into preparing for this day, so you must not forget anything.
This is another thing that can help your friend. Before the big day, give him a list of things you will need. This will allow you to check that you have not forgotten anything.
Have fun! If the new activity doesn’t work for you right away, nothing happens. It is a natural part of everyday life and trying new things!
Go back to your list of desired activities and gradually try as many of them as possible – you will be grateful for that!
